The detrimental impact of tick-borne pathogens on livestock production is coupled with a considerable risk to public health. During the 2007-2010 period, a cross-sectional analysis of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) data involved the extraction and examination of 20,686 subjects. A total of 3,403 men and postmenopausal women, who were 50 years of age or older, qualified for the study due to the availability of their data on osteoporosis/fragility fracture diagnoses, bone mineral density (BMD), and thyroid function. The researchers calculated the following indices: TSH index (TSHI), thyrotrophin T4/T3 resistance index (TT4RI/TT3RI), Thyroid feedback quantile-based index (TFQI), Parametric TFQI (PTFQI), free triiodothyronine to free thyroxine ratio (FT3/FT4), secretory capacity of the thyroid gland (SPINA-GT), and sum activity of peripheral deiodinases (SPINA-GD).
